The Bantam Bulldog is what the English Bulldog looked like back in the early 1800's when the bulldog that had been used for bull and bear baiting had been bred down in size to a small bulldog weighing between 20 and 40 pounds.
The perfect Bantam Bulldog should be of medium height with a square-looking head and a strong muscular body. The disposition should be friendly, brave, and loyal.
The temperament is to be steady and dependable.
Of prime importance is a healthy dog not having many of the health problems that plaque the modern English Bulldog.
Males should be free breeders and females should be free whelpers.
The Bantam Bulldog should not have the same breathing or activity limitations of the modern English Bulldog
We have had a lifelong love of Bullie breeds and have owned many types. With the English Bulldogges came health and structural problems and they broke your heart because they cost a lot in vet bills and had relatively short life spans. Imagine our delight to finally acquire Buster Browne, an English Bulldogge we bought when he was six weeks old. He grew up to have a very unique personality and athletic ability which belied his tank-like bullie appearance. We crossed him with some of our Olde Boston Bulldogges and the results were amazing. They produced pups that were thicker boned and in general heavier than the Olde Boston Bulldogge, and had more of a bullie look and great natural athletic ability and beaufitul termperments. Buster Browne tragically lost his life in a kennel fight while being loaned out to stud at an associate's kennels. But his legacy lives on in his children and the many descendants he now has, who bear his unmistakeable stamp.
These dogs are not registered with the IOEBA like our Olde Boston Bulldogges are....but we have them registered in our private Good Time Kennels registry. We are working on getting the IOEBA registered.
Three of our Bantam Bulldogges have proudly gone to Brigadoon Kennels in Alberta - Darth Vader, Tammy, and Erline. To see the Brigadoon site, go to http://www.bantambull.piczo.com/

IN THIS VIDEO AS YOU CAN SEE, EVEN THOUGH HE WAS BUILT LIKE A TANK, HE COULD REALLY MOVE! WE ONLY WISH THAT WE HAD ALSO TAKEN CLIPS OF HIM JUMPING HIGH IN THE AIR! This video was taken in 2005 in the early spring which explains the lack of greenery. |
